Dream Theater, Grammy Award winners and pioneers of progressive metal, are coming to Arena Zagreb on October 29 as part of their major world tour marking their 40th anniversary. The tour will also feature the return of the band’s original drummer, Mike Portnoy, who rejoined after 13 years away. The band’s original lineup includes Mike Portnoy on drums, John Petrucci on guitar, James LaBrie on vocals, John Myung on bass, and Jordan Rudess on keyboards. This lineup has just completed their new album, “Parasomnia,” their 16th studio album and the first with Portnoy since “Black Clouds & Silver Linings” in 2009.
“Parasomnia” will be released on February 7, 2025, through Inside Out Music/Sony Music. The album was produced by Petrucci, engineered by James ‘Jimmy T’ Meslin, and mixed by Andy Sneap. Hugh Syme returns to lend his creative vision to the album cover. From the opening track “In The Arms Of Morpheus” to the closing “The Shadow Man Incident,” Dream Theater returns with a collection of songs that showcase what has garnered the band loyal followers over the last four decades. With a total runtime of 71 minutes, “Parasomnia” takes listeners on a musical journey that has become synonymous with the band since the beginning of their career. Parasomnia refers to disruptive sleep disorders, including sleepwalking, sleep paralysis, and night terrors. Songs like “A Broken Man,” “Dead Asleep,” “Midnight Messiah,” and “Bend The Clock” explore themes presented in the album's title. The first single, “Night Terror,” offers musical excitement captured in ten minutes of listening. The music video for the song—directed by Mike Leonard—is now available here.
“Parasomnia” will be available for pre-order starting October 11 in several special configurations, including a Limited Deluxe Box-set and Limited Gatefold 180g Vinyl. This album represents not just the growth of Dream Theater as musicians but also a journey they have embarked on together over the past four decades.

The tour begins on October 20 in London at the O2 Arena and will conclude on December 22 in Santiago, Chile. Having sold millions of records worldwide and accumulated over a billion streams, Dream Theater has quietly evolved into pioneers of progressive metal during an unprecedented journey marked by unforgettable milestones. Their album “Images & Words” launched their career and graced Rolling Stone’s cover of “100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time,” while “Awake” topped the list of “Superunknown: 50 Legendary Albums That Defined 1994.” Fans voted “Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory” as the “number one progressive rock album of all time” in a 2012 Rolling Stone poll, and Classic Rock ranked it as the “15th greatest conceptual album.”
They have shaken the charts with three debuts in the Top 10 on the Billboard 200, alongside sold-out concerts everywhere from Radio City Music Hall to Red Rocks Amphitheatre. The band won a Grammy Award for “Best Metal Performance” for “The Alien” from “A View From The Top of the World” in 2021. Now, Dream Theater returns to their roots as vocalist James LaBrie, guitarist John Petrucci, bassist John Myung, and keyboardist Jordan Rudess reunite with drummer Mike Portnoy for their 40th anniversary.
At the same time, these five old friends enter a bold new era fueled by music with perhaps the most focus, intensity, and fire of their career. Dream Theater draws on memories of the past and promises of the future to make the most of the present. Ultimately, their sixteenth full-length album, “Parasomnia,” represents where they have come from and where they are going, not just as bandmates but as brothers.
